Frequently asked questions

Is this for me?

What is a leading edge border?

Our most popular layout: a single, elegant line of embroidery positioned about 10" from the selvage. Designed with symmetry in mind, the fabric can be cut through the center and flipped to create perfectly matched panels, a refined, seamless finish that makes installation effortless.

Can I choose my own thread colors?

Absolutely. Every design can be customized in your choice of colors. Choose from our embroidery thread card of rayon threads, and if you need something special, our factory has thousands more shades available.

Can I change the layout or the design?

Absolutely. Send us your own inspiration images, a sketch, or a filled-out customization sheet, and our art team will create a custom CAD design for you and your client to approve. We'll stay as close to your design as possible, but the embroidery repeat has to fit our machines' limits, so the CAD may differ slightly from your drawing. You'll see and approve every change before anything is made. You can also choose how far the embroidery starts from the selvage (minimum 4").

But what about…

Isn't embroidery too expensive for a large hospitality project?

Not with us. Our volume pricing is very reasonable and in line with many non-embroidered decorative fabrics, even for large hotel orders. And because the border is embroidered directly onto the fabric, there's no trim or banding for the workroom to sew on, which saves on fabrication costs.

Can embroidered borders meet contract fire codes?

Yes. We embroider on contract grade base fabrics and topically treat the embroidered fabric to pass NFPA 701. Our borders have been used in many hotel and contract projects, and we're happy to share examples of past installations.

Will the embroidery affect how the fabric hems or drapes?

In most cases, no. Our embroidery is lightweight, so the fabric hems and drapes naturally, much like the plain base fabric. Our standard sample gives a good idea of the fabric, embroidery and drape.

Planning your order

What's the minimum order?

It depends on the layout. Leading Edge, Three Stripes, Four Stripes and Medallion: 25 yards. Horizontal: 4 panels. L Shapes are sold in equal left and right pairs, minimum 2 pairs (2 left and 2 right panels).

How is it priced?

Generally per yard. For panel layouts (Horizontal and L Shape), pricing depends on your panel dimensions and quantity. Send us your workroom's dimensions and we'll quote you.

Send us your panel dimensions
How long does it take?

For custom projects, most of the time goes into design: our art team creates a CAD, and once the CAD and pricing are approved, we make a strike-off for your approval. The strike-off takes 3–4 weeks. Very custom projects can take longer at this stage. After the strike-off is approved and we receive your PO and deposit, production takes about 8–10 weeks. Shipping time is extra: smaller orders usually come by air, which adds about 1–2 weeks. Sea freight is typical for large-volume orders and adds about 6–8 weeks, but costs less. FR treatment, when needed, adds about 1–2 weeks plus local transit. Working to a deadline? Talk to us early and we'll do our best to meet your delivery date.

What width is the fabric?

Our border fabrics are typically 54" wide. We don't seam fabrics together to make wider panels. For leading edge panels that need to be wider, we supply additional yardage of the matching plain fabric so your workroom can seam it.

Can I always cut and flip the fabric for a pair of panels?

Only on plain base fabrics. If the base fabric has a nap (like velvet) or a pattern, flipping it would make the nap or pattern run the wrong way on one panel. For these fabrics, tell us how many yards you need with the embroidery on the left selvage and how many on the right, and we'll embroider both.

Can I send my own fabric to be embroidered (COM)?

Only on the rarest of occasions. We supply our own base fabrics to ensure quality and avoid any risk of damage or loss. Instead, shop our base fabrics, or send us a sample of what you like and we'll check whether we have a similar substitute.

How do I care for it?

Care depends on the base fabric and the threads chosen. Ask us for care instructions for your order.
